In the 1920s a pet shop owner from Dukenfield, Cheshire, affectionately known as ‘Owd Bob’ began blending ‘Dog Oil’ for easing the muscles of racing dogs between races. The mix had to be safe, since dogs tend to lick off ointments, and not strongly smelling, because it would distract the dog from its ‘game’.

Back in those days, dog racing happened in damp fields, as well as in stadia, and often the trainers and owners were suffering with the effects of the damp as much as the dogs they ran. Somewhere along the line, someone reasoned that, if it worked on an aching greyhound so he could make one more race, then the chances were good it would work on the tired, aching, chilled muscles of a human too. And so, Bob Mason’s Dog Oil jumped the species barrier, to be used by generations of racing folk, athletes, anyone with muscular aches and pains, and is the ‘rub of choice’ of many Physiotherapists. It is even used to good effect on horses.

Obviously, the recipe has changed slightly with time, animal fat being replaced by vegetable oil, so it is ‘vegetarian and vegan’ friendly.

At the HOLISTIC-CENTRE.ORG we are committed to bring our customers the very best products available, and the repute of Mason’s Dog Oil is second to none. Odour free, non-staining and a local product, made ‘up th’road’ in Durn, in Lancashire. So, as the damp of winter approaches, consider Mason’s Dog Oil.
